Notes: This wine has ripe cherry aromas on the nose, along with a delicate spice undertone. The palate expresses ripe plum notes, a minerally texture, good acidity & soft, playful tannins. Highly elegant, more than medium bodied & very Burgundian in style, this Pinot Noir has great finesse & potential for ageing. Total of 18 months oak & bottled without fining or filtration.

Producer Info: Weingut Wieninger is comprised of 45 hectares of biodynamically & organically-grown vines on two main sites: Bisamberg (30 ha) & the smaller Nussberg (15 ha), separated by the Danube river. Fritz Wieninger is considered a pioneer of the “New Vienna” wine movement, combining a sense of modernity & progress with the traditions of the region & of his family, who have been making wine for over 100 years. “I try to use the numerous facets of my grape material,” Fritz says. “To be able to show the differences in site & vintage & to get the character of the vineyard into the bottle – this is my greatest challenge.”

There are over 600 hectares of vines within Vienna making it Europe’s only capital city also demarcated as a wine appellation. The Wieninger winery is in the 21st district on the outskirts of Vienna, home to many of the city’s ‘heurigen’ (wine taverns) & home to the famed Bisamberg hill where the Romans once cultivated the vine. Wieninger is a member of the vintner’s association Österreichische Traditionsweingüter & a member of Respekt, a certifying body for biodynamic viticulture in Austria.
