Notes: In Italy, the Pinot Noir grape variety is commonly known as “Pinot Nero”. This Pinot Nero comes from the slopes of Pinzano & Gleno in the Montagna area of Alto Adige. Fermented in open-topped vats with frequent punch downs in order to aid extraction of characteristic black cherry, marzipan & cinnamon perfumes.

Ruby red in colour & the nose opens with notes of black cherries, raspberries, marzipan, plum jam, cloves & cinnamon, ending finally with some light earthy aromas. On the palate, this wine is fresh & lively with elegant tannins.

Producer Info: The Haas family has been growing grapes in Montagna in the province of Bolzano for generations. However, it was only with Franz, the current proprietor, that they began to produce & bottle quality wines. Franz studied at Geisenheim in Germany before working as a broker of Italian wines in the German market. After several years, he took over the running of the family business.

Franz Haas goes to tremendous lengths to grow good quality grapes & then strives to preserve the flavours of the fruit during winemaking. As a result, the wines that he produces are infused with great character & with a purity & balance on the palate. To maintain the aromatic quality of his wines, Franz Haas has bottled his entire production under screwcap from the 2018 vintage onwards. A revolutionary choice, he is one of the first Italian wine producers to do so.

His Pinot Nero is one of Italy’s best. It is light in colour yet intensely varietal on both the nose & palate, with a lovely tannin structure.
