Notes: It was a long wait from 2011, a Vintage which garnered worldwide recognition for Dow’s when Wine Spectator named it No1 Wine of The Year & which followed the remarkable 2007 Dow with 100-points in the Wine Spectator. In 2016, perfect conditions enabled the production of another outstanding wine & one that will once more enhance the great Dow’s Vintage Port tradition.

The 2016 is ‘very Dow’ in its intensity, taut & lean with the vigour of a young thoroughbred. Typical Dow’s deep, brooding aromas of black plum & Douro schist with lavender & violet notes. Profound & substantial on the palate. A beautifully toned wine of impressive structure & the hallmark slightly drier finish.

Producer Info: Dow’s Port is owned by the Symington family, which has a tradition of Port making that dates back over centuries. The Ports come from Quinta do Bomfim & Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira: both estates were originally acquired by the company in the 19th century & today they produce some of the greatest wines in the Douro.

Dow’s was one of the first Port houses to invest in the Upper Douro Valley, acquiring in 1896 the Quinta do Bomfim near the village of Pinhâo. Bomfim’s 49 hectares (121 acres) of south-facing vineyards, give optimal ripening conditions. The old vines on stone-walled terraces planted by Maurice, John & Ron Symington in the 1920s bring added complexity to the traditional dry finish of Dow’s Ports.
