Domaine Lafage Miraflors Rose
Wine: Domaine Lafage ‘Miraflors’ Cotes du Roussilon Rose
Producer: Domaine Lafage
Country: France
Region: Languedoc-Roussillon / Cotes-Catalanes
Vintage: 2020
Style: Rose
Blend: Mourvedre 50%, Grenache Gris 30%, Grenache 20%
ABV: 12.5%
Size: 75cl
Notes: This wine is a blend of Mourvedre & a small part Grenache & Grenache Gris. Grown on terraced plots along the coast & aged in concrete, it is decidedly Provencal in style. It is juicy, with pure strawberry, citrus & orange peel flavours. The wine has a distinct minerality, with a deliciously fresh finish & also comes packaged in a beautifully designed bottle. Winner of a Silver Medal at the Sommelier Wine Awards 2020.
Producer Info: Jean-Marc Lafage’s family has been growing grapes in Roussillon for six generations but it was Jean-Marc who had the ambition to stop selling the grapes to the local co-op & create a domaine. He & his oenologist wife, Eliane, founded Domaine Lafage in 1996 & the estate now runs to some 138 hectares of vines across Roussillon, with parcels in the Agly Valley, Aspres & Perpignan.
The Agly Valley, with its black shale & layered schist soil in the shadow of ruined Cathar castles is one of Europe’s most exciting terroirs. Eliane & Jean-Marc specialise in growing old vines that impart pronounced minerality & concentration to their wines.
