The Wine:

The new jewel in Champagne Henriot’s crown & its name is a tribute to the Greek Goddess of Daylight, ‘Hermera’. In mid 2018 the Maison unveiled a new, fruit-forward & floral prestige expression to replace Cuvée des Enchanteleurs: Cuvée Hemera. Launching with the 2005 vintage to great acclaim we are now delighted to welcome the 2006 to Liquorice Wine and Deli.

The wine has spent a formidable 12 years ageing on the lees in the darkness of Henriot’s cellars & Hemera represents ‘a complete change of vision’ for Henriot’s prestige cuvée. Hemera is a 50/50 Chardonnay/Pinot Noir blend & is sourced from six Grands Crus: Verzy, Verzenay & Mailly for Pinot Noir; & Chouilly, Avize & Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for Chardonnay.

The key to Hemera’s fresher, more floral style, is to pick at the right time without too much ripeness.’ With a dosage of no more than 5g/l, Cuvée Hemera’s strengths are its finesse, purity & remarkable youth, with notes of lime blossom, honeysuckle & jasmine leading into cooked citrus flavours & honey. Super-fresh & deceptively complex, this is indeed a special wine & one which we are delighted to be a stockist of.

Further Info:

Established in 1808, Champagne Henriot is one of the rare Champagne houses that is completely independent, & which has remained in the hands of the same family throughout its long & illustrious history.

Since its founding, the Maison has been driven by the passion of individuals who have captured the essence of Champagne’s true terroir, passing this unique expertise from one generation to another. Originally from Lorraine, the Henriot family settled in Champagne in 1640. Nicolas Henriot married Apolline Godinot, who owned prestigious Pinot Noir vineyards in the Montagne de Reims. Together, they devoted their time & energy to the family vineyards & selling wine. On the death of her husband in 1808, Apolline launched Maison Henriot. In 1880, Marie Marguet, the wife of Apolline’s grandson, added to the family’s collection of vineyards with several plots in the Côte des Blancs. This firmly established Maison Henriot in the prestigious Chardonnay vineyards. Today, using the finest Blancs de Champagne which are at the heart of its history, Henriot adds an exceptionally high proportion of Premier & Grand Crus to its cuvées which come from the finest Chardonnay parcels.
