The Wine:
Family run, steeped in tradition & famous for its location in the Grand Cru village of Ay in the Vallee de la Marne, Bollinger adheres to its quality charter which ensures huge demand. Powerful, sophisticated & complex defines the style of Maison Bollinger. Since 1911 this Special Cuvee has always been “special” & uses grapes from over 85% Grands & Premiers Crus. Roasted apples & peaches combine with pear & brioche on the palate. The Wine benefits from 3 years lees ageing before release for a richer style.
Further Info:
The house was founded in 1829 by Jacques Bollinger, & soon earned a reputation for quality. Under subsequent generations its reputation has gone from strength to strength, with the company today under the careful stewardship of Ghislain de Montgolfier. The house owns vineyards in some of the best villages & grows almost two thirds of the grapes used in its wines; such significant vineyard ownership is most rare amongst the major Champagne houses. Today the house remains one of the few independent family-owned & managed Champagne houses, with each family member passionate about safeguarding the distinctive style that sets them apart.
