Notes: Superb fruit & spice aromas with an oaky note on the nose. Intense, full & yet delicate on the palate, the wine has a charming velvetiness that lingers on the finish. Very good ageing potential & great with game birds or Burgundian cheeses such as Époisses or Delice de Bourgogne.

The name “Vigne de l’Enfant Jesus” refers to an old story (there are a lot of stories in Burgundy). It is said that Marguerite du Saint Sacrement, the founding carmelite of the “Domestiques de la famille du Saint Enfant Jésus”, predicted the birth of the king of France, Louis XIV, although her mother, Anne of Austria, was in fact sterile. On the birth of the future “Roi Soleil”, this exceptional vineyard which belonged to the Carmelites, took on the name “Vigne de l’Enfant Jesus”. In 1791, a period when all national property was sold, Bouchard Père & Fils put in a bid for the Premier Cru vineyard, situated in the heart of the 32 hectares of the Beaune Grèves appellation, of which it still has the monopoly today.

Producer Info: Founded in 1731 in Beaune by Michel Bouchard, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest wine estates in Burgundy & one of the largest vineyard owners in the Cote D’or. The first vineyards were purchased in Volnay “Les Caillerets” in 1775, & so began a long history of gathering fine ‘terroirs’. Firstly in the Côte de Beaune, which is still home to the majority of Bouchard Père & Fils holdings, & then in the Côte de Nuits. Bouchard Père & Fils is an example of unique Burgundy heritage, offering great diversity & a raft of prestigious appellations: Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Beaune Grèves Vignes de l’Enfant Jesus, Bonnes-Mares & Meursault Perrière – names that resonate with history, inspiring respect & encouraging the pursuit of excellence, with 4 monopolies & exclusivities among them. These remarkable parcels are meticulously tended by the teams who are responsible for the maintenance of the estate’s vines.
