Clos de la Mousse dates back to 1220, when it was bequeathed to the church of Notre Dame de Beaune by cannon Edme de Saudon. In 1872. During the Revolution, this fine vineyard, as did all in the area, became divided up. Then during the 19th century, the Bouchard family bought several vineyards of this delicate cru to obtain exclusivity. The 3.36 hectares of Clos de la Mousse were finally brought together again on the 13th April 1872 with the acquisition by Antonin Bouchard of the last vineyard of “20 ares 28 centiares” This Premier Cru has been the monopoly of Bouchard Père & Fils ever since. The surrounding wall can still be seen today.

Producer Info: Founded in 1731 in Beaune by Michel Bouchard, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest wine estates in Burgundy & one of the largest vineyard owners in the Cote D’or. The first vineyards were purchased in Volnay “Les Caillerets” in 1775, & so began a long history of gathering fine ‘terroirs’. Firstly in the Côte de Beaune, which is still home to the majority of Bouchard Père & Fils holdings, & then in the Côte de Nuits. Bouchard Père & Fils is an example of unique Burgundy heritage, offering great diversity & a raft of prestigious appellations: Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Beaune Grèves Vignes de l’Enfant Jésus, Bonnes-Mares & Meursault Perrière – names that resonate with history, inspiring respect & encouraging the pursuit of excellence, with 4 monopolies & exclusivities among them. These remarkable parcels are meticulously tended by the teams who are responsible for the maintenance of the estate’s vines.
