A rich & elegant wine suited to white meats in creamy sauces, luxurious fish dishes or if you’re really pushing the boat out, foie gras.
The Premier Cru ‘Clos’ of Morgeot lies on the border between the Côte d’Or & Saone-et-Loire regions, which was a boundary in the Gallo-Roman period. At this time this particular plot of land was called ‘Morga’ from the Latin ‘margo’ which means edge border from which today’s name Morgeot is derived.
The wines of Chassagne-Montrachet offer great value, with wines generally commanding lower prices when compared with those from the neighbouring appellations of Meursault & Puligny-Montrachet. The wines are bold & reminiscent of exotic fruits & Morgeot, which lies mid-slope with a south-easterly exposure, is a perfect example of this style.
Producer Info: Founded in 1731 in Beaune by Michel Bouchard, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest wine estates in Burgundy & one of the largest vineyard owners in the Cote D’or. The first vineyards were purchased in Volnay “Les Caillerets” in 1775, & so began a long history of gathering fine ‘terroirs’. Firstly in the Côte de Beaune, which is still home to the majority of Bouchard Père & Fils holdings, & then in the Côte de Nuits. Bouchard Père & Fils is an example of unique Burgundy heritage, offering great diversity & a raft of prestigious appellations: Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Beaune Grèves Vignes de l’Enfant Jésus, Bonnes-Mares & Meursault Perrière – names that resonate with history, inspiring respect & encouraging the pursuit of excellence, with 4 monopolies & exclusivities among them. These remarkable parcels are meticulously tended by the teams who are responsible for the maintenance of the estate’s vines.
