Notes: The Wolftrap is a cracking South African white blend from the esteemed Boekenhoutskloof estate in the Franschhoek valley. While best known for their top premium red wines this, Boekenhoutskloof’s excellent value white blend, is something that shouldn’t be overlooked. It comprises more or less equal proportions of Viognier, Chenin Blanc & Grenache Blanc (exact blend changes by vintage). It leads with the apricot & honeysuckle character of Viognier which leads to a vibrant & fruity palate & finishing with the fresh apple bite of Chenin Blanc. The Grenache Blanc adds a little extra weight keeping everything well balanced, ripe & rounded. Just a hint of oak spice adds a little extra complexity. A carefully made, rewarding wine that’s excellent value.
Producer Info: Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776 & is now run by legendary South African winemaker Mark Kent. The brilliance of its wines has never been in doubt. A winemaker whose ethos is rooted in French non-interventionist thinking, natural yeasts, minimal racking & impeccable vineyard work, Mark’s meaty, complex Syrah is perhaps his most famous wine, but his other wines are equally remarkable like the powerful Cabernet, the sensational & world renowned Chocolate Block & the quite frankly superb value Wolftrap range.. These wines can be hard to find & quantities of the top wines are tiny.
