Notes: The Wismer-Parke Pinot Noir from Bachelder has aromas of plush, ripe red berry fruit on the nose. On the palate, the wine is extremely poised, with silky tannins, bright fruit & racy, refreshing acidity. A rich & complex wine. 18 months oak followed by 9 months resting in bottle prior to release.

Wismer-Parke is a single vineyard in the Twenty Mile Bench sub-region of Canada’s Niagara Peninsula. The cool climate & limestone soils of the area are extremely well suited to Pinot Noir & Chardonnay, producing rich & fruit-driven wines. The Pinot Noir vines were planted at Wismer-Parke in 1999. They are planted on well-drained silt, clay & limestone soils. According to winemaker, Thomas Bachelder, this plot would qualify as one of Niagara’s ‘Grand Crus’ for Pinot Noir (if there were such a thing!)

 

Producer Info: Thomas Bachelder & his wife Mary Delaney have been producing high-quality, cool-climate Chardonnay & Pinot Noir in three regions – France, Canada & the US – since 2009. Years of making Chardonnay – in hallowed areas including Meursault & Corton-Charlemagne – have taught Thomas to be as low intervention as possible in his winemaking. Pressing of the grapes is therefore very gentle & fermentation is carried out with wild yeasts.
