The Wine:
This scented, stone fruit character Chardonnay has a long mineral finish that perfectly demonstrates both the quality of the fruit & advantage of years of winemaking experience. 18-month ageing period has made the wine broader on the palate, more integrated, elegant, silky, truer to its terroir &, surprisingly, less oaky. The wine was then aged in bottle for up to a year before release.
This excellent Niagara wine is sourced primarily from the organically-grown (but not certified) Saunders Vineyard (Beamsville Bench) & the Wismer vineyards on the Twenty mile bench. Another in the holdings is Lowrey Vineyard which is on the St. David’s Bench & is the original vineyard of ‘Alliance,’ the international partnership that at once preceded & inspired another of Bachelder’s projects, Le Clos Jordanne.
Further Info:
Thomas Bachelder & his wife Mary Delaney have been producing high-quality, cool-climate Chardonnay & Pinot Noir in three regions – France, Canada & the US – since 2009. Years of making Chardonnay – in hallowed areas including Meursault & Corton-Charlemagne – have taught Thomas to be as low intervention as possible in his winemaking. Pressing of the grapes is therefore very gentle & fermentation is carried out with wild yeasts.
