Hello fellow wine lovers,
My name is Jamie. I’m based in our Queens Road Buckhurst Hill outlet. I’ve only been in the wine trade for 5years but I have been consuming wine from around the globe for many years.
My first wine experience was up a Portuguese mountain at the age of 8 but let’s save that story for another time 😩
Over the next few months I’m going to talk about various bottles that I can highly recommend and some grape varieties and wine regions that you may not have come across before .
With summer upon us, I want to talk about a red grape perfect for summer slurping, with or without food….New Zealand Pinot Noir.
The British Lions are currently involved in a gruelling tour of NZ and this seems like the right moment to twist the cap on one of Liquorice’s kiwi pinots, although with 8:30am kick offs it could be a tad early to sample this juicy fruit!
Two regions producing top Pinot, Nelson, a small growing region on the coast of the South Island & Central Otago, a high altitude cool growing region deep in the South Island
Stylistically different, my Nelson offering is
2014 Torrent Bay
Crunchy redcurrant and cherry fruit. Light bodied and bursting with summer berry fruits. Match this with grilled salmon or baby BBQ’d lamb chops.
and from Central Otago
Akarua, 2014 RUA
The juice in this beauty spent 7 months maturing in French oak barrique which imparts increased complexity. Medium bodied. Dark black cherry fruit here. Soft tannins with a savoury long silky finish…..suggested food matches…roast lamb, mushroom risotto and especially duck.
Chill these pinots for 15mins in the fridge over the summer months and enjoy them al fresco around the BBQ table.
